Yesterday the appointment was made to cut off the hair and finally start wearing the wig.
The hairdresser was very nice and a professional.
Shaving the head?
None of it, we still have an intermediate.
And see the result !
Walking around in this way with a new coupe is the best impulse to accept the next step.
But that picture we'll keep as a secret for this moment.

The announcement that the third day after the chemo treatment could be the worst, came true!
The medicine against the nausea worked after all, but it gave a lot of pain in the stomach.
Jet could yield to a general feeling of fatigue by sleeping some time after lunch.
Although she always has a lot of energy, she surrenders now to the spirit of Christmas.

The first day after the chemo treatment went in an easy way.
The medicines are the reason that provisionally Jet doesn't feel any side effects.
We went to the Christmas skating rink to watch the grandchildren skating for the first time this winter.
It was a pleasant and relaxed  day.

Outside our tree is lightning the darkness.

Today the first Chemo treatment took place.

A very nice nurse will be the key person during the whole procedure.

Every three weeks one infusion.
Alltogether 6 times.

The after effects we will find out in two days.

A new episode

This morning at 11 am we had another  conversation  with the oncologist.
To get straight to the point, chemo therapy is now inevitable.
The liver shows once again that there are new tumours active and the cancer markers in the blood were alarmingly increased.
Because of the situation the chemo treatment must take place as soon as possible.
The first infusion is next Friday at 13: 00.

Altogether the chemo period will last 9 months.

Sunday, December 8, 2013

After a CT scan and new blood research last week, we will hear the results from the oncologist tomorrow.

The main question is if the heavy chemo therapy can be averted for some time?

Waiting for the verdict now.

Autumn

It was packed in Poli 50.
It looked like sale: get 2 and pay 1.
When the gentleman in the wheelchair was called up, there were three people standing up and walked behind him.
I imagine such a treating physician who has no chairs enough in the small room. It was lucky that the main person was sitting already.
Suddenly there were free seats In the waiting area.
Dr. de Jong called us again exactly in time. His room showed clear traces of the move to the new hospital department Leidsche Rijn. His presence in Nieuwegein is reducing and so he has removed the portraits of his two sons from the wall.
The monitor on which we have seen so many different results in recent years coming along, was still there.
Come on then.

But it wasn’t a positive message.
On the scan two new tumours were discovered in the liver. Although small, but still two which shows that the oral chemo therapy have not done their work properly.
The curious fact is that the tumour markers in the blood were a little lower again, But the liver shows a discrepancy.
With an immediate decision the oral chemo therapy is stopped, and a new therapy has been chosen.
Jet will get two injections every two weeks with a new hormonal medicine.
The control is tightened and it means a monthly control and also again a new liver scan soon.
This is an intermediate that postpones the regular chemo treatment for the moment.
There was a time when we lived by every three months, in the meantime, we must now bind ends of the rope month to month.
 It looks like crisis.
Nothing on sale, cancer you will get absolutely for free!

Besides, Jet bought  just two bundles of sunflowers.
That for those who think that we have lost the courage.

A new phase

Yesterday in the contact with the oncologist the result of two scans, liver and bones.
The liver metastases are even smaller than last time, but the bone scan gave a worse result. Several new metastases were found.
But the oncologist indicated a complete new treatment.
Since January 2013 a small number of hospitals in Holland are allowed to prescribe a new medicine in combination with hormone therapy. This medicine is a so called 'oral chemo', and must block the side roads of the new cells.
The real chemo therapy can be postponed in this way, but during the coming week we will see which side effects this medicine will give.
Statistically we reach the first boarder of five years, but we opt for the double!

Waiting for the summer

Last weekend we were at the Belgium coast side to find courage and fresh air.
Today and tomorrow two CT scans will take place of liver and bones.
The result will be given by the oncologist on June 17.
We hope to get the real summer feeling then.

STATUS QUO

Yesterday during the regular contact with the oncologist
he could tell us that the situation is almost the same.

It means : no reason to change the treatment.

In two months another CT scan.

'Let the sun shine'.

Holiday celebration

Together with our family we had a wonderful time in Oostende during Christmas and New Year.

For Jet's birthday Kasper and Manno cooked a three-star-dinner as a big present.
No snow, but sea and sand is not only great for the grandchildren, but give energy to all of us.
At the end of the month another CT scan and we hope the situation continues to be stable.
